Over the past few months, the Newton Tab has published two Op-Eds regarding the CLC's ongoing approach to testing the water and evaluating the overall health of the lake: Newton Tab Op-Ed (Aug 1, '11) by CLC's Janice Bourque Newton Op-Ed (Mau 7, '11) by CLC's Januice Bourque Thanks to all who stopped by the Conservancy's booth at Newton Highlands Village Day. It's not too late to learn more about our efforts, sign up to volunteer for water testing this summer, or just to buy some of the CLC merchandise. Just email us or click on the "Volunteer" tab! As a result of assistance from environmental scientists and our faithful volunteers, we have learned a great deal about pollution in the lake and have begun to research ways that we can minimize pollution that enters Crystal Lake from the storm drains. We need your help to continue our efforts! We are looking for volunteers to help with two major inititiatives: one is completion of a watershed survey for the surrounding neighborhood and the other is water testing in the lake. Please click on the Volunteer tab iand let us know what you are interested in. CLC Supporters Met the Challenge. Thank You! 04/14/2011
During the Fall 2010, Lake Ave. resident David Putnam issued a $5,000 challenge grant to all supporters of the Crystal Lake Conservancy and their friends. Thanks to CLC supporters' generous contributions, we are happy to report that this challenge has been met! Using these funds, the CLC can begin water testing over the spring and summer, which will be a critical step toward identifying solutions for the continued health of the lake. This spring and summer we will also be conducting a ground survey of the watershed to assess storm water systems, fertilizer applications, pesticide uses, and any other land uses within the Crystal Lake Watershed that may potentially affect the water quality of Crystal Lake. The Crystal Lake Conservancy will then create an educational watershed management plan that will address such items as an improvement of land use practices such as fertilizer as well as storm water management as necessary to improve recharge, reduce suspended solids, and reduce any contaminates that may be flowing from non-point source basis into Crystal Lake. Even though the challenge has been met, we are are still in need of funds to continue this important work. Please consider donating (go to the DONATE button). Any level is greatly appreciated and is 100% tax deductible The December issue of the CLC Newsletter. 12/21/2010
Lake Ave. resident David Putnam has issued a $5,000 challenge grant to all supporters of the Crystal Lake Conservancy and their friends. The Crystal Lake Conservancy is in great need of additional money to buy water test kits for next spring and summer. In addition to the tests we performed this year, lake experts have recommended that we test for types of pollutants. Mr. Putnam will cover half the costs of additional testing if others will join the CLC Board to match the other half. Click on the "Donate Now" button at the top of the page. | News Around
