An estimated 250 to 300 people turned out for the second annual Paddles and Pumpkins Event on the afternoon of September 28. The weather was warm, the sky was sunny, and record numbers turned out on the shores of Crystal Lake to take their turn in kayaks, paddleboards and canoes, decorate pumpkins, and sample food and cider donated by Whole Foods. This event - jointly sponsored by the Crystal Lake Conservancy and the Newton Parks and Recreation Department - was organized to raise awareness about the lake and educate the public about the Conservancy's efforts to keep the lake healthy. Two CLC volunteers Hal Lictin and Sophia Autor were honored for their hard work, and information was available about ongoing initiatives in water testing and watershed education. Most importanty, everyone who attended was able to enjoy a beautiful day at one of Newton's most treasured locations! SEE FULL FLYER HERE.
